You all live in the same neighborhood. Over the years, you've formed relationships and created memories. Sometimes, there are conflicts. But no matter what, you're a community. You may even consider yourselves a family.

Be My Neighbor is a game based on For the Queen, product of Alex Roberts and Evil Hat Productions, and licensed for our use under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported license.

This game is designed to help brainstorm intervention strategies that do not involve police interference. Players live in the same neighborhood, which you will build and explore together by responding to the prompts provided on the cards. As the world develops, you also engage with one another as well as with a non-playable neighbor named Sam, who often needs your help. Be My Neighbor allows players to explore nice and not-so-nice neighborly interactions and discuss strategies for responding to non-emergency disturbances by using roleplaying as a gateway to a conversation we often don't have with our neighbors.

The digital deck includes:

  • Clear instructions built right in
  • ## prompt cards exploring characters' lives, relationships, and beliefs
  • An X card to remove content you don't want to include in the game

Community Copy

Although game development is primarily a hobby for me, it isn't fair that I severely undercut people who earn a living doing this work by offering games for free. At the same time, capitalism sux and money shouldn't be a barrier to happiness (or a barrier to anything, really).

While we all wait for the world to be a better place, I've found a nice middle ground: offering community copies for folx who can't afford to pay full price. For every purchase made I'll offer a community copy that someone can grab for free.

I don't have parameters for claiming a community copy. You don't have to prove to me that you're marginalized, or broke. If it's there and you want it, it's yours. I do hope that if and when you can, you return to my humble little itch.io page and pay it forward by buying a copy of one of my games so others can have the gift of gaming during hard times.

Hello, I have a question about the cards. Whenever the cards mention a neighbor, is it referring to an NPC neighbor? Or is it talking about our fellow players?

The neighbors are fellow players. The only NPC neighbor that the cards will directly refer to is Sam, who will be mentioned by name. Players of course can introduce other NPCs but most of the cards describe situations where players interact with one another.
